Bio
That's right friends and lurkers, I've taken yet another small step in personalizing this journal. I changed the titles to something a tad more appropriate and decided the write an actual profile.

For some reason, I always rewrite my profile at 3:30 in the morning when I should have been asleep for hours. I'm going to take a shot at changing this to be more informative than garishly metaphoric. For starters, some biographical information:

I'm twenty-five, and I live in State College, PA (yeah, I've never heard of it either) with two of my best friends. I got here through a funny series of events that involved my best friend going into the graduate program for Criminology at PSU, being homeless, my car breaking down, living in Philadelphia, and working as an IT recruiter, not in that order. There's a bit more to it, IM me sometime and I'll tell you the whole story.

Beyond age and rank, I presently run the ala carte line at a historic hotel on the Penn State Campus servicing both a bar and grill and a high-end dining room. Cooking has always been a present passion in my life. It embodies many of my philosophical dispositions. I believe in the pursuit of self-development. An acquaintance of mine once said that cooks are really pirate poets. I like that.

As far as personally, I like people a whole lot, but I'm intensely shy. I grew up in something of an acrostic situation which lead to poor people skills. I'm just not good at small talk, frivolous niceties, flirting, meeting people, and generally coming off as anything other than a condescending jerk. I don't try to be, it just sort of happens that way. I do have a group of very close friends who amount to my family. My blood doesn't run very far, so the people I've picked up in life are closer to me than my living relations. I'm intensely loyal to them which might not help my insular air. Nevertheless I love talking to new people, especially asking them questions and hearing their opinions and life views.

At present I'm in a relation and pretty excited about it. I'm relocating this summer to be closer to her and I'm equally excited about that.

On life views, I'm about as pragmatic as someone can be. All those political tests score me as almost perfectly middle-of-the-road, which I like. I fundamentally believe that while maintaining an overarching normative ethical system is beneficial, it has to be open-ended enough to amalgamate to situations that come along. Which means I take in everything I can about a subject, consider it for a while, and then figure out where I stand. So the things I categorically believe in are very much generalized. At the same time, I've come to appreciate the value of tradition and canon. I want to straddle the line between conservation and reform.

My hobbies include games, comic books, tiny art projects, media in almost all of its forms, food, the internet, and probably half a dozen things I can't remember now. I'm not really an extrovert or an introvert. Again with the middle of the road thing. Sometimes I go out and do things, sometimes I stay in and play video games all day.

Two things in closing. The first, I want more adventures in my life. I'm talking Spielberg quality adventures here. Aliens and temples and pirates and cowboys...that kind of thing. So I'm always down for an adventures. The second, I like comments and feedback. My posts tend to be flippant and fun (sometimes obnoxious, but you'll have that) or serious and opinionated. In either case, feedback is generally welcomed. I've been trying to post more as a way of generating activity on my journal (both my own and my friends list). I usually drop a comment when I friend people, please do the same to me.

Oh, before I close this up, I should mention that I often public post the more interesting and impersonal side of things. The rest hides behind lock and key. If you're interesting, drop me a comment and I can put you in. I don't really have any layered filters, so either it's public or its friends locked.

Finally, some lyrics, still:

all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
